One Word, 3 Ways

Look how these lost kids use the word of the issue, heading

Heading can mean:

  • a word or phrase at the top of a document that hints at what the document is about
  • leading a group or project
  • going in a certain direction

Lance Lekander

Kid 1: I found a very old paper with the heading “Treasure Map.”

Kid 2: I’m heading a group that’s going to find this treasure.

Kid 3: But I think we’re heading in the wrong direction!

Root Power!

Meet Lexie! She time traveled from the ancient world and landed in Storyworks. Lexie loves words—especially ones with Greek and Latin roots. Today she’s using words with the Latin root terra. That means earth, land, or country. Can you figure out the meaning of the orange words below?

Lance Lekander

Lexie: I miss the beautiful terrain where I grew up, near the Mediterranean* Sea.

Lexie: I’m creating a terrarium with plants from that part of the world.

Lexie: I’ll put it on my terrace, where there’s plenty of sun!

*Bonus: Do you see the root in this word too?
