A crowd watches a large dolphin swim through a pool. Swish! It rises to the surface and lets a kid pet its head, just like dolphins do at marine theme parks everywhere.
But this dolphin isn’t real. It’s a Robot!
A company called Edge Innovations created it, hoping that one day robot dolphins will replace the live ones that perform at marine shows.
Until the 1800s dolphins were found only in the ocean. But then people started capturing them for display in aquariums. Living in a tank can make dolphins bored and sad.
Edge Innovations hopes that its robots will allow people to enjoy dolphins without harming them. The robot dolphins runs on batteries. Have metal bones and rubber skin. But they can swim and do tricks just like real dolphins.
As for the two dolphins above? The robot is the one on the left.
