1) The next time your little sister plays with a toy truck. She should thank Robert Patch. When he was 5, he built a truck using things around his home. Many toy companies now design trucks using Robert’s as a model.

2) In the 1930s, two Ohio teens named Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster came up with a new character. The hero Superman. The teens later sold their idea to DC Comics for $130.

3) In 1824, 15-year-old Louis Braille developed a writing system for people who were blind like him. Inspired by secret army codes. His amazing system is still used today!

4) When she was 11, Gitanjali Rao designed a device to cheaply test water for a dangerous chemical called lead. Now she has a new mission. Help kids around the world invent their own solutions to problems.

5) Did you know that a teenager came up with the genre of science fiction? In 1816, 18-year-old Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein. It’s considered the first sci-fi book. Awesomely creepy too.

6) Inventor Cassidy Goldstein’s Crayon Holder has helped kid artists use even the smallest broken bits of crayon. Many crayons have been saved from the trash can. Because of this 11-year-old girl’s invention!

7) A cup from the future? No, it’s a Kangaroo Cup! Seven-year-old Lily Born invented this three-legged cup for her grandpa. He has Parkinson’s, a disease that causes his hands to shake. Lily’s special cup helps him avoid spilling his drink.
