You Asked, We Listened

Dear Storyworks teachers,

In early December, I posted on Twitter that I had been thinking about the stories my grandmother used to tell me about the polio epidemics that happened when she was a child. Schools would close. Families stayed home. People were terrified. And then we conquered polio. Her stories, I wrote, made me feel hopeful.

Many Storyworks teachers suggested that I write about this in Storyworks—and so I dropped everything to write this month’s article “From Fear to Hope.”

It’s actually the third time we’ve written about polio in Storyworks articles this year—so your kids will be able to make some fascinating connections. And I’m hoping that my story will remind them of how stories from the past can fill us with hope and wisdom today.

Wishing you all the best!

Lauren
