Friendship Starter Kit

The new school year was starting,

and I came to class prepared.

I’d made a “Friendship Starter Kit”

because I felt so scared.

I filled my kit with games for two,

plus dominoes and dice,

and conversation starter cards

to help me break the ice.

I added jokes and trivia,

some gummy worms to share,

and finished with a handy

“get-to-know-you” questionnaire.

At school I grabbed my backpack,

and I rummaged for my kit.

I dug around, checked everywhere.

Whoops. I’d forgotten it!

My stomach tumbled off a cliff.

I felt so unprepared.

Then someone smiled and said, “Hello.”

Hey, why was I so scared?
