Look how this adventurous kid uses the word of the issue, sport.

Sport can mean:

  • a physical activity or game done in a competition or for enjoyment
  • to wear something to try to attract attention
  • someone who behaves politely, especially in a competition

I’m trying out a new sport today: skateboarding.

I wanted to look good, so I decided to sport my new helmet and shoes.

I wasn’t the best, but I was a good sport about it and had fun anyway.

Root Power!  

Meet Lexie! She time traveled from the ancient world and landed in Storyworks. Lexie loves words—especially ones with Greek and Latin roots. Today she’s using words with the Latin roots frag (to break) and fract (broken). Can you figure out the meaning of the orange words below?

Lexie: I just bought this beautiful but fragile vase.

Lexie: Oh no! I tripped and dropped it. Now the vase is in fragments.

Lexie: And I think I fractured my arm in the fall!
