Look how this hurried kid uses the word of the issue, scramble

Scramble can mean:

  • to cook eggs by stirring while frying,
  • to rush to get somewhere, or
  • a jumbled mess.

Lance Lekander

-I’ll quickly scramble some eggs for breakfast.

-I hope I can find my math book in that scramble of stuff on the floor.

-Then I’ll have to scramble to get to school on time.

Root Power

Meet Lexie! She time traveled from the ancient world and landed in Storyworks. Lexie loves words—especially ones with Greek and Latin roots. Today, she’s using words with the Latin root cred. That means believe or trust

Can you figure out the meaning of the orange words below?

-I’m incredulous about some of the things I’ve read—like the story of the elephant with three trunks. I don’t believe it!

-The writer of that article probably had no credentials. Nothing makes me believe he was qualified for the job.
