Types of Skills Activities:

Quizzes

Our multiple-choice quizzes, modeled after standardized assessments, familiarize students with the structure and language of state test questions. Also available as a self-scoring Google form, these quizzes help you track comprehension—and save time.

Close Reading & Critical Thinking Questions

These questions guide students through thinking deeply and analytically about our stories, while also giving them opportunities  to practice writing short responses and personal reflections.

ELA Skills

These activities support and guide students in honing specific ELA skills, from finding the main idea to identifying text structures, connecting texts, analyzing characters and plot, and more!

Vocabulary

Our enriching vocabulary activities reinforce challenging terms students encounter in a story and help them expand  their vocabularies.

Writing Support

From graphic organizers for summarizing to scaffolded activities for writing sentences, paragraphs, and essays, our ready-to-use writing activities help students develop their writing skills in response to what they are reading. Our engaging writing contests also help students practice core writing skills while strengthening  their unique voice and motivating them to write for an audience.

These interactive activities clearly explain a grammar skill—such as capitalization, punctuation, and sentence structure—then guide students through practicing the skill in context, using stories they’ve just read. Our special Grammar Hub also provides multiple activities for honing a variety of grammar skills.
